Big news, Line Of Duty fans. The sixth series of the BBC cop drama has officially wrapped filming, meaning it's one step closer to landing back on our screens.

Sharing the exciting moment with fans on social media, the show's creator Jed Mercurio thanked the whole crew working so efficiently and safely during the coronavirus pandemic.

He wrote: "#LineofDuty6 We couldn't have done it without the dedication of cast, crew and supporting artistes to rigorous CoViD safety.

"Not a single day's filming lost, and 100+ colleagues finished the shoot in good health. We looked out for each other. We followed the science."

Alongside the tribute was a picture of all the cast and crew in the oh so familiar detective office, perched on desks and standing with masks on as they celebrated completing another season.

Martin Compston, who plays Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott on the show, also praised the entire team as he marked the end of filming.

Writing on Twitter, he said: "Delighted we've finally wrapped season 6!

"Tip of the cap to the production team for putting the protocols in place to provide a safe working environment and to the phenomenal crew, having the discipline and determination to work within the new parameters and get us over the line.

"It was a different way of filming to get used to but we were lucky to get back doing a job we love. The scripts from Jed Mercurio superb as ever and we gave it everything, we had so fingers crossed.

"For a lot of us the Covid bubble meant being apart from family for an extended period. I'm now looking forward to some quality time with mine, with that in mind heading offline for a bit. Stay safe troops!"

The popular show - which also stars Adrian Dunbar and Vicky McClure - was originally commissioned for a sixth season in 2017 but filming had to pause due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Filming resumed in September in Belfast, and we learnt last week that the show would be returning no later than March next year.

We cannot wait.
