It's HAPPENING!

The BBC has released some behind the scenes pictures from the set of Line Of Duty as the cast reunite for series 6.

The channel announced the next instalment of the police drama was in the works last week, sharing a picture of Martin Compston, Vicky McClure, Adrian Dunbar and new star Kelly Macdonald (from Boardwalk Empire, The Victim and Giri/Haji) are all cosied up - looking happy to be back on set.

But now we've been treated to our first official filming pics, just to whet out appetites a little more.

In one of the pictures, Adrian Dunbar can be seen in character as Ted Hastings from behind a director's clapper board, which reads: 'Line Of Duty 6'.

Meanwhile, in the second, the officers appear to be in the middle of a briefing, as a camera records them from behind a glass window.

The show entered pre-production just before Christmas, with Martin Compston sharing a picture of the new series' script and teasing: 'Guys...I'm scared".

Series 5 of the drama - which came out in March - had the nation well and truly gripped as we watched as Arnott and co attempt to get to the bottom of the identity of mysterious bent copper 'H'.

We don't know what to expect from the next show, apart from the fact that Kelly Macdonald's character Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson is joining as AC-12's newest adversary - and possibly their toughest yet.

Her unconventional methods of investigation into an unsolved murder are set to raise some eyebrows as she makes her debut.

While we don't have an official air-date for the new series either, the fact that the cast are back to work means that hopefully we shouldn't have to wait too long.

Traditionally, the BBC series has aired on a two year-cycle, meaning that it would have been slated for screens around Spring 2021 - so getting our next fix a year early is super exciting.

What a treat!
