In what may be bittersweet news for 'Lucifans', Lucifer's sixth and final season has officially wrapped filming.

Joe Henderson, Lucifer's co-showrunner, tweeted on Monday that production on the cult show had now ended. "We have the best fans!!!" he said, after #ThankYouLucifer trended on Twitter. "Last day of shooting Lucifer, and what a wonderful sendoff from Lucifans [sic]".

Based on the Vertigo/DC Comics character, Lucifer will be bidding farewell once and for all after its surprise sixth season airs.

The Tom Ellis-fronted series has almost had nine lives - after it premiered on Fox in 2016, it was cancelled after three seasons. Netflix swooped in and bought Lucifer back to life for a fourth and fifth instalment.

Season 5A aired in August last year, with the second half of season five - known as season 5B - set to debut on Friday 28th May on Netflix. This was intended to be the show's final series although Lucifer managed to snag a sixth season.

In case you needed a reminder, the series follows Lucifer Morningstar (aka the devil) as he moves from the depths of hell to upmarket Los Angeles, in the hope of a change of scene.

Lucifer starts off running a nightclub before eventually becoming an LAPD consultant.

The first half of season five was an absolute hit with Lucifans - it even shattered the previous record held by The Umbrella Academy in becoming the biggest TV opening debut on Netflix since the introduction of the top 10 feature.

Season 6 started filming in October and all the main cast members are expected to appear, including Lauren German as Detective Chloe Decker, D.B. Woodside as Amenadiel and Rachel Harris as Dr. Linda Martin. Also set to appear, Kevin Alejandro as Detective Dan Espinoza, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Mazikeen Smith and Aimee Garcia as Ella Lopez.

We don't know when season 6 will drop but we'll update you as soon as we know more.

Season 5B premieres 28th May 2021.
