If, like us, you're a certified horror head and have already binged all of Netflix's goose bump-inducing The Haunting of Bly Manor, you may have found the lady in the lake character oddly familiar.

The mysterious figure of Viola Willoughby-Lloyd who, having been betrayed by her family, continues to haunt the manor and its grounds after her death, rang a few bells for us, too.

But why? Well, as it turns out, the answer lies in the series' predecessor, The Haunting of Hill House.

Bly Manor's lady in the lake, who appears in the final two episodes of the first season, is played by actress and screenwriter Kate Siegel, a regular in horror franchises and series.

Kate also plays (wait for the penny to drop) Theodoura, the middle child The Haunting of Hill House.

However, horror lovers may also recognise her from a bunch of other spine-chilling productions, including Hush and Ouija: Origin of Evil.

Phew, we KNEW we recognised her from somewhere!

The Haunting of Bly Manor is based on Henry James' spooky novella The Turn of the Screw and is full of sinister characters and slow-burn scares.

Kate also plays Theodora Crain, the middle child in 'The Haunting of Hill House' (
Netflix)

The show's synopsis reads: "After an au pair's tragic death, Henry Wingrave hires a young American nanny to care for his orphaned niece and nephew who reside at Bly Manor with the estate's chef Owen, groundskeeper Jamie and housekeeper, Mrs. Grose.

"But all is not as it seems at the manor, and centuries of dark secrets of love and loss are waiting to be unearthed in this chilling gothic romance. At Bly Manor, dead doesn't mean gone."

If you've yet to watch the series (and seriously, what are you waiting for?) then you can whet your appetite by watching the trailer here:

Several cast members of the horror-drama overlap with those in The Haunting of Hill House, including Victoria Pedretti, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Henry Thomas, Carla Gugino, and of course Kate herself.

All nine episodes of The Haunting of Bly Manor are available to watch on Netflix now.
