Iceland's Christmas Advert Has Arrived And Features A Few Surprise Guests

Iceland's Christmas advert for 2019 has just landed and it features Frozen 2 film characters.

Christmas adverts from all the supermarkets are one of the best things about the lead up to the big day. Will they make us laugh or cry? It's hard to predict.

But Iceland this year has teamed up with Disney to create their ad, which is all about the Frozen 2 character's favourite things at Christmas and includes favourites Elsa, Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven.

The advert begins with a little boy playing charades with his family during the holidays, with an Olaf toy under the tree next to him - but suddenly we're in the Frozen universe with Olaf acting out his top festive things.

That list includes decorating the tree, presents and snowballs. Naturally.

Elsa plays the game next and uses her icy powers to conjure up a dining table, where she reveals her favourite thing at Christmas is to share a special meal with her family and friends.

It then cleverly says towards the end of the ad: "Discover the magic of frozen at Iceland". We do love a play on words.

It encourages viewers to shop frozen goods that the store specialises in for their Christmas dinner, but also plugs Frozen's upcoming sequel which will land in cinemas on November 22nd.

But, the fun and carefree tone of this year's ad is the complete opposite to last year's, which served as a warning to those that buy products containing palm oil and the damaging effect it has on animals. It was the most watched Christmas ad ever.

Despite the clip beginning with a cartoon of a sweet orang-utan in a little girl's bedroom, when she proceeds to ask him why she's there, she starts to explain that a human has invaded her personal space in the forest she lives in back home.

She goes on to explain that the shampoo the little girl uses and lots of food that she eats contains palm oil, which comes from trees that humans in her forest have been hacking down.

The orang-utan's voice continues: "There are humans in my forest and I don't know what to do, they're burning it for palm oil, so I thought i'd stay with you." It was gut-wrenching.

But after the advert, which was a collaboration with Greenpeace was banned for being too political, it seems Iceland has now taken a lighter tone with their Christmas advertising for 2019.

Frozen 2 will land in cinemas on 22nd November. (

The new advert is promoting its festive food, but it comes after the store released an exclusive Disney Frozen 2 food range which is slightly less festive and includes things such as Frozen 2 french fries, icicle lollies, Olaf potato shapes and breaded haddock snowflakes.

Neil Hayes, Director of Marketing at Iceland, said: "We wanted to treat viewers to a magical Christmas advert this year and there is no better partner than Disney. We are both experts in Frozen!"

Disney and Iceland teamed up for their ad, but also a food range which launched in early October. (

The advert is included at the top of this article, but if you also want to watch it on TV, it will premiere tonight at 8:15pm on ITV.
