If you loved Channel 4's I Am when it hit screens last year, then you'll be happy to hear that its back for a brand new three-part series.

Produced by Emmy award winning Me+You Productions, the series is set to start filming in early August, and it has two big names already at the helm.

Yep, Suranne Jones (Doctor Foster, Gentleman Jack) is to be taking the lead in one of the episodes, named I Am Victoria, alongside co-star Ashley Walters (Top Boy, Bulletproof).

We don't yet know details of the other two eps, or who will star in them, but we'll update you as soon as we do.

In case you don't remember Channel 4's I Am series, it's written and produced in a pretty unique way.

Each episode is developed and written by Dominic Savage (Nice Girl/ When I Was 12) in collaboration with the leading actor, and the story they're depicting has "personal resonance".

The idea is the series represents female experiences authentically through this close connection to the star at the front of each episode, highlighting key themes that mean a lot to them.

The tropes at the centre of Suranne's episode include "trust, relationships and mental health," while we've previously seen themes like debt, abuse and anxiety put under the spotlight.

Speaking on her involvement in the new series, Suranne Jones said: "I'm delighted to be involved in the next series of I Am. Dominic always tells important stories with great sensitivity and the process so far has been wonderfully collaborative and open which is something I thrive on.

"I can't wait to make what will be a very personal and thought-provoking piece and I'm thrilled to be telling this story with Ashley. I hope it really speaks to people and helps continue the important discussions around mental health."

Meanwhile, Caroline Hollick, Head of Drama Channel 4 said: "We are utterly delighted to bring back this groundbreaking series. Suranne and Dominic have created a truly iconic, heart-rending character in 'Victoria', and I cannot wait to see how their extraordinary creative vision unfolds on-screen."

While we don't know any more about Suranne's episode yet, the themes will have Doctor Foster fans hoping for another nail-biting affair drama, following the end of her character Gemma's rocky journey back in 2017.

We know that she's got it in the bag when it comes to playing a scorned wife, made unwell as a result of her husband's infidelity. But what will her character Victoria have in store in I Am?

We can't wait to find out...

The Channel 4 show has seen multiple famous faces take on its lead roles in the past, including Gemma Chan in I Am Hannah and Vicky McClure in I Am Nicola.

Samantha Morton also famously starred in I Am Kirsty.

Writer, Director and Creator Dominic Savage said: "I am looking forward greatly to making another series of female led stories with such amazing and incredibly talented actors, starting with Suranne.

"It is a privilege to be telling such personal and important stories in this unique and collaborative way. These will be inspirational, relatable, and truthful tales of courage and hope, that shine a light on the difficult and challenging aspects of all of our lives."

We're so happy that I Am is returning to screens. Here's to a new series celebrating bad*ss female actresses in its lead roles.
