Here’s Everything We Know So Far About ‘Homeland’ Season 8

It's the final season of the nail-biting show - so what can we expect?

Fans of Carrie Mathison and Saul Berenson, rejoice: Homeland is coming back for its eighth and final season in early 2020.

Poor Carrie went through a particularly rough time at the end of Season 7 despite her successfully getting Russian operative Simone out of Moscow. She was captured by Simone's handler and boyfriend Yevgeny, and kept a prisoner.

The end of the tense finale showed Carrie, after seven months in a cell with no medication for her bipolar disorder, barely able to function and not even recognising Saul after finally being returned to him in a prisoner exchange.

So what will the final season of the nail-biting series hold for Carrie, Saul et al? Here's what we can expect from Homeland Season 8.

Who is in the cast?

Claire Danes will reprise her role as Carrie, while Mandy Patinkin will carry on as Saul Berenson.

Also joining them is Beau Bridges, who will play President Warner, Sam Trammell, who will play vice president Benjamin Hayes, and Claire's IRL husband, Hugh Dancy, who will join the show as foreign policy advisor John Zabel.

We also might spot some recurring faces such as F Murray Abraham as Dar Adal, Elizabeth Marvel as Elizabeth Keane, or Maury Sterling as Max Piotrowski.

What's the plot going to involve?

From the trailers, it looks like Carrie and Saul will be heading to Kabul, but after Carrie's horrendous imprisonment, it certainly won't be plain sailing. She will struggle with broken memories and the trauma of her confinement, and there will be issues of trust between her and the US government.

The official Season 8 synopsis reads: "The final season of Homeland finds Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) recovering from months of brutal confinement in a Russian gulag.

"Her body is healing, but her memory remains fractured - which is a problem for Saul (Mandy Patinkin), now National Security Advisor to the newly ascendant President Warner (Emmy and Golden Globe winner Beau Bridges).

"The top priority of Warner's young administration is an end to the 'forever war' in Afghanistan, and Saul has been dispatched to engage the Taliban in peace negotiations.

"But Kabul teems with warlords and mercenaries, zealots and spies - and Saul needs the relationships and expertise that only his protégé can provide. Against medical advice, Saul asks Carrie to walk with him into the lion's den - one last time."

The next series is set to air in February 2020. (

Will there ever be another season?

In a recent Variety podcast, Claire previously revealed the show wouldn't be "unequivocally conclusive", adding: "It's the kind of show that could continue going on indefinitely because it's a strange model. It's an unusual model. It can mutate in ways a lot of shows can't."

However, Showtime bosses have said this really will be the final season.

When is the show airing?

Homeland is set to hit Channel 4 in mid-February 2020.
