If You Loved 'Cheer' And 'You', You'll Be Obsessed With Netflix's 'Dare Me'

This is far from a lighthearted cheerleading show.

We were all obsessed with cheerleading documentary Cheer when it came out on Netflix last month - and now we have another addictive watch based on the sport!

But don't expect high fives and team hugs this time.

Dare Me is the gritty new drama that landed on Netflix this weekend, which - much like the docuseries - chronicles the competitive and gritty side to cheerleading, with an added dose of murder thrown into the mix.

Based on the novel of the same name by Megan Abbott, the 10-part drama tells the story of a cheer squad in a small Midwestern town who become entangled in a web of bitter secrets when a new hot-shot coach is drafted in.

Addy Hanlon (Herizen Guardiola) becomes somewhat obsessed with new cheer coach Colette French (Willa Fitzgerald) and the pair find themselves keeping secrets for one another.

However, things take a dark turn when Colette embroils the teen into the death of Sarge Will, who was murdered in his apartment.

"Relationships topple and loyalties flip when an icy new cheerleading coach takes over the high school squad ruled by Beth and her devoted BBF, Addy," says Netflix.

First broadcast on USA Network in the States last year, the drama also stars Marlo Kelly, Zach Roerig, Alison Thornton and Rob Heaps.

It's set to be a good watch for fans of You, too, who are no doubt missing a mind-bending Netflix serial killer drama on their screens.

Season 2 of the Penn Badgley-starring drama launched on the streaming service Boxing Day 2019 and fans are already speculating about season 3.

With season one released in September 2018 and season two in December 2019, people are predicting we'll get the next series in early 2021.

Well, at least we have Dare Me in the mean time, eh?
