Diane Keaton hasn't been on a date in almost 40 years

Diane Keaton hasn't been on a date in almost 40 years

The Oscar-nominated actor spoke out about her dating life

The dating lives of celebrities are usually all over the news, but don't expect to be reading about Diane Keaton's any time soon.

The Annie Hall star opened up about her dating life - or lack thereof - in an interview with InStyle magazine, and she didn't hold back.

Keaton claimed she has not been on a date in nearly 40 years - and insists it's 'never' going to happen.

Talking frankly about her romantic history, the 77-year-old said she was never on the receiving end of male attention and never got asked out on dates.

In fact, the mother of two claims she hasn't been out for a romantic dinner since 1984.

That would mean she was in her early 40s when she was last courted.

"I haven’t been on a date in, I would say, 35 years. No dates," she said. "I am what they used to call an old maid."

She added: "I am, but I don’t think I was marriage material, honestly, because I’m too independent. I am still pretty cheerful about life."

Ironically, many of Keaton's best-known roles are in romantic comedies, including First Wives Club (1996), Hanging Up (2000), Something's Got To Give (2003), The Big Wedding (2013) and Book Club (2018).

Despite never being married, Keaton has lived a full life - she's been in a plethora of movies and adopted two children in her 50s.

She started her family by adopting daughter Dexter in 1996 and added son Duke to the family in 2001.

Keaton said of her kids: "My life went a certain way and suddenly I was 50 with no purpose and I wanted a family.

"In some ways my children are lucky because I'm much less self-involved now. But they know they have this older parent, and that must be odd for them."

Although she says she hasn't had a lot of male attention when it comes to romance, the Oscar-nominated actor has many male friends in the film industry.

One of her closest friends is director Woody Allen, who directed her in Annie Hall (1977), which was her first big role.

Speaking of Allen, Keaton said: "'Obviously, I owe it all to Annie Hall.

"That was the beginning. I did several movies with him [Woody Allen]."

Despite currently being single, Keaton did have a thing for Al Pacino - who she appeared in The Godfather with.

However, it wasn't to be and Keaton broke up the relationship after he refused to settle down.

Keaton said: "'I was mad for him.

"Charming, hilarious, a nonstop talker. There was an aspect of him that was like a lost orphan, like this kind of crazy idiot savant. And oh, gorgeous!"
