Rapper Da Brat announces she's expecting first child aged 48

The star admitted it's 'been quite a journey'

Popular rapper Da Brat has revealed she is expecting her first child with wife Jesseca 'Judy' Harris-Dupartat at the age of 48.

Da Brat and Judy officially tied the knot in February last year, after a romantic ceremony held at the Horse Mansion in Fairburn, Georgia.

And just a year later, the couple have announced they are now expanding their family, with a little one on the way.

Speaking to People, Da Brat, whose real name is Shawntae Harris-Dupart, opened up about her pregnancy joy as she discussed her IVF journey.

She said: "I never thought I was going to have kids. I just thought it wasn't in the cards for me. I've had a great career, a full life.

"I felt like, because I didn't get pregnant earlier on, then it just wasn't going to happen for me."

Judy is already a mum of three, with Da Brat saying her outlook changed for the better when she met her wife.

"I started looking at life so differently," she said.

"I was like, I want a little me with you. Something special from the both of us that we can share and raise and love unconditionally."

Less than a year after the couple had their big day, Da Brat found out she was pregnant, as the couple used Judy's eggs and an anonymous sperm donor to conceive.

Da Brat is now 18 weeks pregnant, but it was certainly a tough ride for the couple to get to the point where they are today.

There have been many setbacks along the way for the couple.

During the egg retrieval stage, Judy is said to have gone through 'major' health complications.

Meanwhile, Da Brat had to undergo surgery to remove fibroids and polyps before the embryo transfer could take place.

Not only that, but Da Brat also opened up on a 'heartbreaking' miscarriage, she said: "I had never been so excited about something that I didn't even know I wanted.

"I fell in love with the idea and then it was all snatched away from me.

"Luckily we still had quite a few of her eggs left."

Now well into her second trimester, Da Brat added: "It's just a blessing. I'm excited!

"I don't have any cravings or nausea, but I'm always sleep. It's crazy."
