Paris Hilton shocked fans back in January when she announced that she and her husband Carter Reum welcomed their first child, but the couple always knew they wanted to keep things 'really private'.

In fact, not even Paris's mum Kathy Hilton knew about baby Phoenix until he was a week old - that's some very impressive secret-keeping.

Paris, 42, explained that her whole life has been lived out in public, but she wanted this part to be 'just mine'.

"Not even my mum, my sisters, my best friend knew until he was over a week old," she told listeners of the This Is Paris podcast.

"It was really nice to have that with Carter, be our own journey together.

"I just feel like my life has been so public, and I've never really had anything be just mine."

Paris explained that her privacy has been 'invaded' so many times, and her husband Carter 'has always been a really private person', so keeping the baby news hush hush was an easy decision - though she does admit it was 'hard to keep that in.'

"Because we were so excited and wanted to tell our families, but we were just nervous because if you tell a person, then they tell someone, and all the sudden, it's in TMZ or Page Six, and I've had enough of my life like that.

"So Carter and I literally made a pact together that we would not tell anyone, and no one knew until just recently."

Recalling the moment she revealed baby Phoenix to her mum Kathy, Paris shared: "When I introduced my mum to our baby boy, it was amazing to see the look on her face.

"She was so surprised - just the look on her face, it was priceless."

Raving about being a new mum, she added: "We are just so happy and feel so blessed. He is so perfect, and it's amazing being a mom."

Earlier this week, Paris announced that she and Carter had decided to name their son Phoenix Barron Hilton Reum.

Reading an excerpt from her upcoming memoir on her podcast, she explained how they came up with the unusual moniker.

“We plan to name him Phoenix,” she reads. “A name that I decided on years ago when I was searching cities, countries and states on a map looking for something to go with Paris and London.”

"I want my son to grow up knowing that disaster and triumph go around and come around throughout our lives and that this should give us great hope for the future."

Paris and Carter married in late 2021, and she has since confirmed that the happy couple used a surrogate to welcome their baby boy after trying out IVF in the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking to People at the time, she shared: "It's always been my dream to be a mother and I'm so happy that Carter and I found each other.

"We are so excited to start our family together and our hearts are exploding with love for our baby boy."
