North West may only be nine years old, but she’s quickly becoming known for her fashion choices and this Halloween was no exception.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s eldest child wore Michael Jackson’s hat from his iconic 1988 music video 'Smooth Criminal'.
Fans, however, have been left divided after the youngster filmed a video on her joint TikTok account with her mum of herself wearing the garment, which is worth $4,480 and is a highly valued piece of pop culture history.

The short clip sees North and two friends lip synching to ‘Dark Horse’ by Katy Perry.
“Kim k will face jail for her crimes,” one outraged fan tweeted. “Why North west need Michael Jackson hat!!!!!! Why????”
Another unimpressed Twitter user wrote: “Why was North West running around with Michael Jackson’s actual Smooth Criminal hat? That is not a flex, it’s just creepy.”
While someone else called the costume choice ‘crazy’, writing: “North West wearing Michael Jackson’s actual hat from smooth criminal is just crazy to me.”
However, some social media users thought North’s costume was an ‘impressive’ tribute to the King of Pop, with one person writing: “Why are y’all so butt hurt about these items? Plenty of ppl buy stuff that belonged to another person whether they are living or deceased.
"The fact that North is even a fan of his is impressive considering most kids don’t know who the hell he is.”
And one keen second hand shopper quipped: “I can’t say much cause I wear clothes from the thrift store and who knows who dead granddaddy sweater I got on…”
The SKIMS founder appears to have quite the penchant for clothing items worn by dead icons, after the 42-year-old infamously wore Marilyn Monroe’s dress to the Met Gala this year.
The Michael Jackson hat was part of a collection of celebrity memorabilia Kim purchased for her eldest child in 2019 as a Christmas present.
Fans may recall the mum-of-four proudly displaying the Smooth Criminal accessory on Instagram after she bought it, along with a velvet jacket the pop singer wore to Elizabeth Taylor’s 65th birthday party in 1997 and to the screening of his film Ghosts.
Kim paid $65,625 for the jacket, and explained on her Instagram Stories at the time: “North is a really big Michael Jackson fan and we knew she would love this.
“We won this on an auction for Northie for Christmas.”
Some alterations were made to the jacket so she can wear it now and adjust the body and sleeves as she grows up.
