David Foster has admitted he's still adjusting to raising a toddler at the age of 73.

The legendary musician, who welcomed his first son Rennie in 2021 with wife Katharine McPhee, 38, is also the dad to daughters Allison, 52, Amy, 49, Sara, 41, Erin, 40 and Jordan, 36 from previous relationships.

The 16-time Grammy winner, who has worked with the biggest icons in music like Madonna, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion, married American Idol runner-up Katharine in June 2019.

In a new interview about how his life has changed since welcoming his first son, he said he hopes to share some of his wisdom with Rennie.

“I had all daughters until my son and I love all my daughters immeasurably, but having a son is a little bit different,” he shared with People.

“Not better or worse, just different. I still work, I’m still gone a lot, but maybe time is a little more precious to me because I got more runway behind me than I have ahead of me now,” he said.

He also reflected on not being around his son once Rennie reaches his forties and fifties and how becoming a father again has made him more patient.

“I think that I can offer one thing to Rennie even though I won't be around when he's 50 or 40 even, or 30 maybe. I think I can offer him wisdom from my 72 years on the planet,” he reflected. “And maybe that's not a bad trade-off. I hope so.”

He added: “I was not patient when I was young,' he confessed. 'I was arrogant and just on the move.”

The music mogul previously told the publication that he didn’t anticipate becoming a father again at his age but he has never ‘regretted a single day of it’.

“I've loved every single day,” he claimed. “It's the standard thing of like: ‘Oh, well you were so young when you had your children and you were working day and night, you never saw them’.”

David has been married five times and he also has seven grandchildren.

He had his first daughter, Allison, in 1970 when he was 20 and she was placed for adoption. He reunited with his daughter 30 years later.

Reality TV fans may recognise his third wife, actress Linda Thompson, whom he wed in 1991. They became a songwriting team and collaborated on the song 'I Have Nothing' from The Bodyguard. He became stepfather to Linda’s sons, Brody and Brandon Jenner, who she shares with Caitlyn Jenner.

Similarly, his fourth wife was Dutch model Yolanda Hadid. He became stepfather to Gigi, Bella and Anwar Hadid. After tying the knot in 2011, the couple announced their decision to divorce in 2015.
