Bruce Willis’ daughter has shared an update on social media after it was confirmed earlier this week that the Hollywood actor is retiring due to health issues.

The Die Hard star’s family confirmed the that the 67-year-old had been diagnosed with the condition aphasia, which is an neurological disorder that can affect cognitive abilities. Aphasia can leave a person unable to communicate effectively with other people and, according to the National Aphasia Association, it affects two million people in the US.

Scout Willis, Bruce’s 30-year-old daughter, shared a sweet picture with her dad and thanked the world for the “the depth and breadth of the love” the family have received since making the diagnosis public.

"Yesterday was so surreal, sharing something so personal,” she wrote on Instagram, addressing both her “papa” and his legion of fans across the world.

“I didn’t know how it would be received, there is always an unknown when sharing out so vulnerably into the world.

“I’d hoped for some love and compassion, I truly NEVER could have anticipated the depth and breadth of the love we received as a family yesterday.

Scout, whose mother is actress Demi Moore, explained how the support and kind messages from the public have brought her to tears. “It kept hitting me yesterday how much love, energy, and prayers were now being sent to my daddio and just humbling me in a way that’s brings tears as I write this."

She also spoke directly to Bruce's fans, writing: “I am so grateful for your love, I’m so grateful to hear about what my papa means to you.

“Thank you so much to everyone who reached out to me yesterday, i love and I appreciate you with all my heart, it’s gonna take me [awhile] to respond to your messages!”

On Wednesday, a statement was released confirming that the Pulp Fiction actor would step away from acting due to health issues.

It was signed by his five daughters; Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel and Evelyn and his ex-wife Demi and current wife, Emma Heming.

The statement reads: “To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities.

“As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.

"This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him.

"As Bruce always says, ‘Live it up’ and together we plan to do just that.”
