Fans of Bridgerton will be shocked - and perhaps amused - to learn that Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton in the series, was once part of a successful boy band!

Yes, before he landed a major role on the beloved Netflix series, Luke was one quarter of the Sussex boy band South4, who signed a reported £1million record deal with Eagle Music back in their prime.

In Bridgerton, Luke plays Colin - the third-eldest of the Bridgerton siblings and good friend of Penelope Featherington. In season one of the series, Colin was sent away from London after his affair with Marina Thompson.

Thankfully, Colin made his grand return in season two, and fans watched in disappointment as he rejected Penelope's attempts to get out of the dreaded friend-zone.

But before he played a dashing young gentleman from 1830s London, Luke Newton formed a band with his three classmates at The BRIT School - a performing arts school that educated the likes of Jessie J and Adele.

With his band-mates Oli Evans, Joel Baylis and Henry Tredinnick, Luke formed South4. For a hot second, it looked like the boy band might have been on to something, signing an impressive deal with Eagle Music back in 2012, and releasing their debut single 'Cougar Town', which they pledged would be the "song of the summer."

Unfortunately, after the likes of Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe' , Nicki Minaj's 'Starships' and Maroon 5's 'Payphone' absolutely dashed their hopes of claiming song of the summer that year, the boy band's hype fizzled out, and South4 was no more.

Instead, Luke went on to land major roles in TV series like BBC's The Cut, Disney Channel's The Lodge, and - of course - Netflix's Bridgerton!

As fans finish up season two of the Netflix drama, they're already looking ahead to seasons three and four. With each season of the series focusing on another Bridgerton sibling, viewers believe that Luke's character Colin could be next!

Seasons one and two of Bridgerton are available to watch now on Netflix.
