Ashton Kutcher explains ‘awkward’ photos with Reese Witherspoon

The Punk'd star admitted that he'd been scared of rumours in the press between him and his co-star.

Ashton Kutcher has spoken about his awkward appearance on the red carpet next to his co-star Reese Witherspoon.

Despite the pair being long-time friends and starring together in new rom com Your Place or Mine, Kutcher has said he doesn’t know how to pose next to the actress when facing the world’s press.

Speaking on the Chicks in the Office podcast, he argued that it had been made even more difficult because of the constant rumours about him and his co-stars.

“Here’s the thing: If I put my arm around her and was, like, all friendly with her, I’d be having an affair with her,” he explained, bluntly.

Kutcher continued: “If I stand next to her and I put my hands in my pockets, so there’s no chance that, like, that could be the rumour, the rumour is we don’t like each other.”

His comments come after the What Happens in Vegas actor was seen standing rigidly on the red carpet, with Witherspoon looking similarly unimpressed.

The uncomfortable moment went viral over social media last weekend and has sparked major speculation in recent days.

Setting the record straight, Kutcher told listeners: “Reese and I are really good friends. We’re really close. I don’t have to defend that.”

The 45-year-old also revealed that he was ‘hard of hearing’, which contributed to his frustrated face while attending the premiere of his latest film.

Struggling to hear the press and pose, the actor became annoyed resulting in his unenthusiastic face during the high-profile event.

He explained: “I don’t know who’s yelling my name, but I know there’s a lot of people yelling, ‘Reese, Ashton, over here …’ and, at a certain point, you’re looking like, ‘God, this is really something’ … for like 20 minutes.”

Despite this, Kutcher’s wife, Mila Kunis, has called out the veteran actor for his red-carpet demeanour.

“My wife called me, she texted Reese and I together, and she’s like, ‘Guys, you gotta act like you like each other,” Kutcher admitted to fans during the podcast.

During her appearance on the Today show, Witherspoon confirmed the story and poked fun at Kunis’ telling off.

The women have been friends for over a decade, before Kunis became involved with Kutcher.

In spite of the images from the red carpet, Witherspoon said it had been ‘fun’ to get to know Kunis’s other half.

The Legally Blonde star said: “He’s so professional. He’s the funniest guy. I mean, such a goofball. We had so much fun.”
