Anne Hathaway accused of ignoring Priyanka Chopra at fashion event

Fans of Anne Hathaway have jumped to the star's defence after she was accused of ignoring Priyanka Chopra Jonas when they saw each other at a fashion event in Italy.

It's hard to imagine simply running into A-listers on a night out, and even harder to imagine what a 'normal' interaction would look like with one of them.

Then again, I'm not Anne Hathaway.

So I'm not sure how I'd react to seeing Chopra, but many internet users have deemed Hathaway's interaction with her as entirely unacceptable, even though it actually looked relatively friendly.

The two stars appeared at Bulgari’s fashion event in Italy on 16 May, when a TikTok video shared by Harper’s Bazaar France showed Hathaway walking over the red carpet to where Chopra was standing next to Zendaya.

Fans noticed the Princess Diaries star reached out to Zendaya to give her a kiss on the cheek, but she didn't immediately acknowledge Chopra.

It was only after greeting Zendaya that Hathaway turned to Chopra and appeared to engage them both in conversation.

There's little context surrounding the video, but for some it was proof enough that Hathaway must have some kind of issue with Chopra.

"She actually ignored her.. WOW," one person wrote, while another commented: "Anne Just ignored Priyanka! I didn’t know she carries such an attitude."

A third added: "Priyanka waited for her hug."

After the footage caught fans' attention, a lot of people jumped to Hathaway's defence and argued that the video didn't tell the whole story.

Some claimed that Zendaya arrived late - probably fashionably so - to the event, so Hathaway had already had chance to say hello to Chopra before greeting the Spider-Man star.

One supportive TikToker wrote: “Guys. Priyanka Chopra and Anne Hathaway already greeted each other earlier. Please don’t throw hate towards Anne Hathaway.”

None of the stars have addressed the exchange between them, but one fan pointed to another photo of the three women and assured they 'all look fine' with one another.

A lot of images have emerged of Chopra, Zendaya and Hathaway all looking stunning as they posed together on the red carpet for the event, which launched Bulgari’s new jewellery collection.

All three stars are ambassadors for the brand, and had their arms around one another during the photoshoots.

Following the event, Chopra shared snaps of her look on Instagram and tagged those involved, saying: "Thank you for having me!"
