Harry Styles' accent in Don't Worry Darling has got people really confused

Harry Styles' accent in Don't Worry Darling has got people really confused

What in the GCSE drama?

People are seriously confused over Harry Styles' accent after watching a new clip from his upcoming film Don't Worry Darling.

Building on the hype for the movie, creators released an exclusive clip from one of Harry's scenes with Florence Pugh - though it didn't exactly get the response they might have expected.

Check out the clip here:

While everyone can agree that Harry is an exceptional talent when it comes to music, people are now starting to wonder if he could do with a few more acting lessons.

Playing opposite a star like Pugh has got to be an intimidating job for any actor, but Harry's performance in this scene had even some of his most hardcore fans at a loss for words.

While fellow Brit Pugh effortlessly puts on a perfect American accent for the scene, Harry seems to struggle between a few different twangs.

After watching the clip, some fans wondered if Harry's character was supposed to be American to match the other characters in the film, hence his unusual accent. But others are convinced he sounds like he's trying out a range of accents in one go.

As if that weren't bad enough, some people admitted that Harry's acting reminded them of Curtis and AJ Pritchard's infamous Hollyoaks appearance.

The brothers went viral last year when they were sent into Chester to shake things up as evil twins Marco and Jacob.

If you had forgotten about the brothers' questionable acting chops, here's a quick reminder, courtesy of the people of TikTok.

Not exactly the performance you want to be compared to, is it?

Alas, between Mr Styles' delivery and questionable accent, people couldn't help but point out the resemblance.

What's probably most confusing about Styles' acting is that this isn't his first film role.

The pop star famously played soldier Alex in the multi-award-winning war film Dunkirk (2017), made a surprise appearance in Marvel's Eternals (2021), and is set to star in romantic drama My Policeman later this year.

We can only hope that Harry has yet to show us his best work.

In Don't Worry Darling, Harry is set to play Jack Chambers, a young man in a happy marriage to his wife Alice (Florence Pugh), who works for a mysterious company.

When curiosity gets the better of her, Alice starts looking into her husband's secret 'Victory Project', but the further she digs, the more cracks begin to form around her.

Don't Worry Darling will hit the big screen on 23 September.
