A controversial episode of The Suite Life of Zack & Cody has recently made its rounds online and left many believing that it would have 'Disney taken off the air'.

People are battling it out as to whether the episode was entirely inappropriate or if it was just a bit of fun.

It has since re-opened the heated debate over cancel culture. Check it out:

The sitcom, which has since been cemented as a core part of many of our childhoods, spanned three seasons between the years of 2005 to 2008.

The show followed the likes of identical twins Zack and Cody - played by Cole and Dylan Sprouse - who find their lives taking a hilarious turn when their mother starts working at one of Boston's finest hotels, the Tipton.

Responsible for launching the careers of Ashley Tisdale, who played Maddie, and Brenda Song, who played London Tipton - the show is well-regarded as one of the best to have come out of Disney channel.

Due to its popularity, The Suite Life of Zack & Cody went on to receive a handful of spin-offs including The Suite Life on Deck (2008-2011) and The Suite Life Movie which premiered in 2011.

The controversial clip is from the episode titled 'The Fairest of Them All'.

However, a recently-resurfaced video has got people thinking about whether some of the show's comedy from the mid 2000s is now out-dated in today's current climate.

The clip originates from the second episode of the first season of the sitcom show titled 'The Fairest of Them All'.

The episode's premise follows Cody falling in love with a girl named Rebecca, played by a young Victoria Justice, who is competing in a beauty pageant hosted at the prestigious Tipton Hotel.

In hopes of getting closer to her, Cody devises a plan where he dresses up as an alias, Tyreesha, and pretends to be another girl who was supposed to compete but forfeits to her as a romantic gesture.

But, when Cody's brother, Zack, caught light of the plan he decided to try out his own luck in the pageant - with the end of goal of winning the prize money instead of Rebecca's heart.

A compilation of clips from the episode was uploaded to TikTok, showing the boys' mother walking in on one of her sons wearing a skirt.

"Oh thank goodness."

"Zack," she asks, "why are you wearing a skirt?"

He replies: "I did it so we could win money for bikes," at which point the mum breathes a sigh of relief.

Placing her hand to her heart, she exclaims: "Oh thank goodness."

The clip has gone on to receive over 2.7 million views with an avalanche of people heading to the comments to share their opinions on it.

One TikTok user said: "This would have been 100% cancelled."

"That last one would've had Disney taken off the air," commented a second.

"I was so young when I watched this," added a third, "I didn't even realise she said, 'Oh thank goodness.'"

A fourth claimed: "The world would simply stop spinning if this aired in 2023."

While many thought that if the show aired today, it would be 'immediately cancelled', others, however, argued that the clip was just a bit of fun.

One fan of the show wrote: "That's why shows and movies aren't funny anymore because they've got to cut out truthful humour."

"I miss this era," added a second, while a third reminisced, "I'm thankful I grew up in this era."

A final TikTok user posted: "I thought this was hysterical but people would blow an absolute gasket over this today."
