The cobbled streets of Weatherfield could be left without one of its most familiar faces as Chris Gascoyne is rumoured to be walking away from Coronation Street.

The iconic soap star, 55, has played Peter Barlow for 23 years and is a family face on many TV screens each week.

However, that could all come to an end as reports have emerged claiming that Gascoyne has 'quit' the role.

The Sun reported that the star will leave his role permanently later this year in a big storyline.

Quoting an unnamed source, the publication reported: “Chris has decided to take an extended break from the soap.

“He loves working at Coronation Street but he’s got a lot of things he wants to do wand the time is right for him to take a break and pursuer other roles.”

Fear not, Coronation Street fans as it appears he won’t be killed off if the reports of him leaving are true.
