Primark has unveiled plans to reopen some of its UK stores next month, following the government go-ahead last week.

The owner of the fashion mega chain, Associated British Foods (ABF), confirmed that 281 Primark worldwide branches will be open by 15th June, including 153 in England.

The retail giant is still waiting for further guidance surrounding stores in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, but is expecting to open them in "late June".

In a statement this week, the retailer said: "As European governments have begun to ease restrictions on clothing retailing we have been able to reopen stores."

It went on to assure shoppers: "Safety has been our highest priority in our detailed preparations to welcome our customers and employees back to stores. We are following government safety advice in all markets."

The move comes after some Primark stores are already trading abroad, including branches in Belgium, Italy, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and the US.

"Importantly, we will apply the valuable experience gained from more than 100 stores which are already open as we open the remainder of our estate, including stores across the UK," Primark promised.

"Social distancing protocols, hand sanitiser stations, perspex screens at tills and additional cleaning of high frequency touch points in the store are among the measures we are implementing.

"These measures are designed to safeguard the health and wellbeing of everyone in store and to instil confidence in the store environment. Feedback from customers and employees in those markets where the stores are open has been positive."

Primark will be joined by many other stores in opening on June 15th, which is the first date non-essential retailers are allowed to, following the government's lockdown easing announcement.

The budget store shut its doors when coronavirus lockdown measures came into force in March, and lost around ยฃ200m in the first 12 days.

We're happy to see them back! Shop safely and responsibly folks...
