Hairdresser reveals one thing they absolutely hate you doing when they’re washing your hair

While it's usually the client with the complaints, it turns out there's a lot we do that annoys hairdressers

Hairdressers are banding together to reveal their pet peeves when it comes to their clients.

It's usually the other way around - we reveal the things that do our nuts in when getting our hair done.

Whether it's having 'just a couple of inches' turning into a bob that Victoria Beckham would have rocked in the 90s, or having your scalp burned with scalding water - it's never the most seamless experience.

Yet, it seems we provide our own dose of drama when it comes to visiting our local salon.

Taking to Reddit, a user asked: "Hairdressers of Reddit, what are some helpful and unhelpful things that clients do when they come in for a haircut?"

Safe to say they all flocked to share the unhelpful things we're guilty of doing.

One user responded: "Lifting your head in the shampoo bowl! Don't do that.. That's how we end up soaking the back of your shirt!"

And with 840 'upvotes', it seems that this is a common bugbear.

One person said: "Yessss! I never used to say much when people did that but after years of it, I now just say 'lay down unless you want to get your back drenched.'"

Another added: "Omg! Yes! I know they think they're helping but they aren't."

Though it turns out that's not the only thing we do that gets their blood pressure rising.

A user chimed in: "My friend is a hairdresser and her biggest complaint is unrealistic expectations. People want to go from dark brown to platinum in one session, bright pink hair that never fades, amazing rainbow hair from a heavily filtered photo on Instagram.

"It's mostly about expectations e.g. if you want blue hair then expect bleach damage and split ends, be prepared to spend money on colour safe shampoo, conditioner, hair treatments, maintain it regularly, change your pillowcases, etc. Don't blame your hairdresser if you go swimming for hours and your hair turns green."

And it seems this is a pretty common problem, with another person adding: "Can confirm, I had a similar conversation with my hairdresser and its all about unrealistic expectations, she says she is a hairdresser not a magical wizard that can make any look work on any person.

"She said she would say to customers I cant make you look like that person, I can give you a similar hair cut to what they have but that doesn't mean you are going to look like them and she preferred they left with that advice instead of becoming a pain in the a** customer to try and make happy."

We can definitely see how it would be annoying, but it's also important we're communicating exactly what we're hoping for!

Maybe we should learn how to cut our own hair.
