There’s nothing we love more than a budget beauty hack and people say they’ve found a ‘life-changing’ solution to fungal acne.

In an unexpected move, shoppers are putting anti-dandruff shampoo on their faces to get rid of pesky bumps and spots - and apparently it ‘works wonders’ after just one use.

With thousands of rave reviews on Amazon, the viral shampoo is flying from the shelves with over 20,000 bottles sold in the last month alone.

So, what are people saying about it?

“After seeing a lot of people recommending this product as a sort of face mask for fungal acne, I decided to try it,” one customer said. “I saw visible improvements after using this for as little as three days! I'm glad I bought this product, and I'm going to continue to use it every other day until it runs out! It has really helped to clear up the bumps I never thought would leave me!”

Another happy shopper agreed, as their five-star review reads: “After looking at other reviews, I ordered this to try and clear up the fungal acne bumps on my forehead which I have struggled with for years. They started to clear up within the first few uses, leaving my skin actually feeling smooth, something I have never been able to achieve with any other skincare products. I am so, so happy with this product for fungal acne and cannot recommend it enough for this purpose.

A third simply wrote, “You life saver. I’ve been struggling with fungal acne and forehead malassezia (fungus), for years now. This product is the ONLY thing I've found to work.”

Can I use anti-dandruff shampoo on my acne?

The bizarre skincare hack has blown up on TikTok and naturally, dermatologists have rushed to offer their professional opinion. In multiple videos online, dermatologists have agreed that it’s often the zinc or ketoconazole found in anti-dandruff shampoo that is the secret to success, as they're renowned for their anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal properties. In turn, this can help to combat fungal acne alongside hair loss and of course, dandruff.

It’s worth highlighting that dermatologists don’t recommend using anti-dandruff shampoo as a face mask if you’re suffering from hormonal acne - it is only believed to help with fungal conditions.

How to know if you have fungal acne? Fungal acne is where spots appear as red bumps or white heads. They tend to be itchy in comparison to usual spots and can flare up anywhere on the body, although they most commonly appear on the forehead, temples, and hairline.

How to use anti-dandruff shampoo for fungal acne

Beauty influencer @bambidoesbeauty has shared her advice on how to use anti-dandruff shampoo for fungal acne on TikTok. In the viral clip, she says: “Apply it as a face mask, lather it up, leave it on for a few minutes, and wash it off - do this a couple of times a week and your [acne] will clear up.”

Of course, the budget beauty hack won’t work for everyone. We recommend doing a patch test first and if you experience redness or irritation after using the product, stop using the shampoo immediately.

Where to buy anti-dandruff shampoo for acne

The product everyone is talking about is the Nizoral Anti-Dandruff Shampoo (60ml) which is currently available on Amazon for just £6. It’s selling fast so make sure to hurry if you’re keen to give the hack a go.
