Is it right for a man to pay on a first date? Well, this TikToker and many others certainly think it's completely necessary, especially if the dude wants a second meeting.

Evelyn Gonzalez, who goes by @e11evyn on TikTok, says that not paying on the first date means you instantly get transported to the worst possible location - the friend zone.

Watch the viral clip below:

As shown in the clip above, the TikToker says: "Men are so funny I swear to God. So, I went on a date with this guy and when the check came he asked me to split the check with him.

"To which I responded, ‘yeah sure of course.’ And he was like, ‘you don’t mind?’

"And I was like, 'no of course not. Like why would I mind I don’t care'."

Despite seemingly having a good evening with her date, Gonzalez then asks her followers: "Tell me why the next day he was like, 'why are you being distant? Why are you ghosting me? Like why are you not texting me back?'

Gonzalez reasoning then alludes to the fact that the lad didn't pick up the cheque on the first date, saying: "Sir, like, what baby, I don’t know how to tell you this I’m not gonna be the one to tell you it.

The TikToker has divided opinion with her outlook on who pays the bill on a first date.

"But someone needs to tell this man."

Despite causing a bit of a divide in the comments, many were taking the side of the TikToker.

One person wrote: "if you paying, he obviously just wanted to be friends... then get mad about you ghosting him."

A second said: "I'd ghost him too, like sir I thought this was a date."

Another agreed: "Instant friend zone. I split the check with my friends."

"If we split the check…you in the stranger zone again lol," a third person quipped.

A fourth added: "Haha happened to me last month! If you asked me in a date and split we are friends baby."

However, as someone else rightly pointed out: "Nahh the guys gettin mad at this."

Many believe whoever instigated the date should pay for the bill.

One unimpressed user said: "Reminds me of that article about men being unable to date bc standards are higher."

Someone else also hit back at the TikToker, writing: "That’s very passive aggressive behaviour... he dodged a bullet."

Another person added: "Man...this is what dating is like today? not speaking to someone else again after they asked to split a check? oy.."

Well, as 50 Cent once famously said, it's the person whose idea it was to go out on the date in the first place who perhaps picks up the bill - just an idea.
