Sister Wives stars Janelle and Kody Brown confirm they've officially split

Sister Wives stars Janelle and Kody Brown confirm they've officially split

The pair entered into a polygamous marriage in 1993

Sister Wives stars Janelle and Kody Brown have confirmed their split after spending nearly 30 years in a polygamous relationship.

The revelation came towards the end of the season finale episode of Sister Wives, which first aired last night (11 December) and included a sneak peek for the upcoming Sister Wives: One on One special.

In the clip, patriarch Kody was asked to speak on the status of his relationship with Janelle, who he entered into a polygamous marriage with in 1993.

Along with Janelle, with who he shares six children, Kody has shared a polygamous bond with Christine Brown, Meri Brown and Robyn Brown.

The question of their relationship status came after Kody and Janelle addressed issues in their relationship in the latest series of the show, with last week's episode seeing them contemplating whether their romance still existed.

Kody said he felt like he was 'begging' Janelle to have a deeper bond with him, while Janelle explained that although she felt like she needed to 'do everything [she] can to make this work', she was 'not even sure it's possible to come back' from where they were.

Kody has been in a polygamous relationship with four women.

Addressing the matter in an interview later, Janelle commented: "I never thought that I would ever be in a place where I would be questioning my relationship, but the last few years, I began to wonder if we're compatible anymore. Maybe this doesn't work anymore for me. I don't know."

In the clip shared last night, it became clear the pair had reached an agreement.

After being asked about his relationship with Janelle, 53-year-old Kody revealed: "I am separated from Janelle. And I'm divorced from Christine [Brown]."

Janelle confirmed the news, saying: "Kody and I have separated."

Janelle confirmed her separation in a preview of the special.

"I think if we both really sat down, we’d look at each other say, ‘Really?’ We’ve been separated for several months," she added in the clip.

Kody claimed in the preview that Janelle had made it 'pretty clear to [him] that she’s enjoying her life without [him]', with the split marking the second woman in Kody's life to go solo after Christine announced her separation from Kody in November 2021.

Following his separation from Janelle, Kody remains in a polygamous bond with Meri and Robyn, though his relationship with Meri has now become platonic.

The Sister Wives: One on One special is set to air in three parts beginning on TLC on 18 December and continuing on 1 January and 8 January.
