Woman finds out she’s pregnant after giving birth in restaurant to baby boy

Woman finds out she’s pregnant after giving birth in restaurant to baby boy

Tayvia Woodfork went to the Golden Corral bathroom because of cramps - and it turned out she was 37 weeks pregnant

Tayvia Woodfork got an off-menu special when visiting the Golden Corral in North Little Rock, Arkansas - she gave birth despite not knowing she was pregnant.

It's the kind of story that comes up every once in a blue moon and leads us to wonder whether or not it's even possible, but it turns out it very much is.

On 4 May, Tayvia, 26, realised she needed the bathroom because she was experiencing cramps.

It turns out she was 37 weeks pregnant and gave birth in the bathroom.

Her mother, Tameka Woodfork, told TODAY: "She was complaining that her stomach hurt.

"There were no signs. We had no idea."

It's understandable how Tayvia missed her pregnancy - she says she didn't gain any weight or feel any foetal movement whatsoever.

What Tayvia went through is known as a cryptic pregnancy. While rare, they do occur - and describe the phenomenon of a person being pregnant and not realising for most or all of the duration.

According to Tameka, she went to the bathroom to check on her daughter after 10 minutes and was shocked to find that it was something a bit more serious than cramps.

She reflected: "I said, ‘We have to go to the hospital’, but she couldn’t move her legs, so we ended up calling 911."

Tayvia was screaming in pain and as paramedics arrived, she was in labour and gave birth to a boy.

Upon the birth, she announced: "It's out! It's out!"

Her mother recalled: "The baby was in the toilet."

Understandably, word had spread around Golden Corral that a woman was in active labour in the bathroom.

By the time Tayvia emerged with her bundle of joy, people applauded and lined up to greet the little one.

Tayvia named her son after the restaurant, calling him Tamaar Kylon Corral Woodfork.

Golden Corral expressed joy at the new arrival and called Tamaar their 'youngest fan' on social media, adding: "IT'S A BOY! Please join us in welcoming Tamaar Kylon Corral Woodfork, who was so excited that his mother was dining at Golden Corral that he decided to join her! He was just born in our Golden Corral."

The restaurant gifted Tayvia with a gift card and some newborn essentials.

A spokesperson for Golden Corral commented: “As surprised as our team was at the news of a baby being born at our restaurant, we are truly honoured to play such a momentous role in little Tamaar’s life. But no honour compares to having Tamaar carry on the ‘Golden Corral’ brand name in his own name, Tamaar Kylon Corral Woodfork!”
