A horrifying video has shown the dangers of wearing the hair accessory in the car

If you regularly wear hair accessories, take note.

Experts have issued a warning against wearing one specific hair accessory while driving, and the reason why is so important.

While it's not something we often think about, what we wear while driving is actually hugely significant.

We know that we shouldn't wear specific types of shoes while driving and of course, in the winter months it's especially important to have a supply of warm clothes just in case of a breakdown.

But have you ever considered what accessories you wear on your head?

Experts say you should never wear a claw clip in the car, just in case of an accident.

This is because in the case of a crash, the clip can become lodged in the back of the skull due to the sheer force of impact.

A video by @professorsimple on Instagram, explains why it's so dangerous, showing in slow motion how the clip can impact the back of the head.

And people were horrified, admitting they'd never thought of it before.

One wrote: "I never thought about that. I wear them all the time."

While another said: "Yikes! Would never have thought of that!"

And a third added: "I guess I need to stop wearing mine in the car, I had gotten hit by a soccer ball full force and my hair clip broke an I had pieces of it in my hair for days after."

Meanwhile, a fourth person recalled their own terrifying experience, explaining: "Had one on when got t boned and ambulance strapped me to spinal board with it in!! Crazy pain for hours! Take it off while driving!"

Last year, a woman issued a warning after she got a claw clip lodged in her head.

Paisley Nicole, from the US, was involved in a car accident which saw the vehicle she was in 'roll over'. Thankfully, Paisley's injuries weren't critical.

However, upon impact, her hair clip became lodged in her head.

Paisley explains she was driving in her friend's boyfriends side-by-side car when she had to 'go pee'.

The TikToker continued: "So she was taking me to go and she turned really hard. And we were going just under 20 miles an hour and we rolled.

"And the back of my head hit a metal bar which lodged the claw clip in the back of my head.

"My boyfriend was there thankfully and my cousin and they literally ripped the roof off of the side-by-side to get me out. And I called my mum and she called the ER letting them know we were on the way."

Once at the hospital, Paisley underwent a CT scan and X-rays of her head and chest 'to make sure [she] didn't have any brain damage'.

The TikToker added: "I was very lucky I did not."
