Flight attendant shares the one mistake holidaymakers make when using luggage tags on suitcases

We're now firmly on the road to summer season (although the UK weather may suggest otherwise) and I'm sure many of us can't wait to pack our bags and jet off to somewhere sunny.

Well, before you do all that, you should know about one pretty major mistake holidaymakers make when using luggage tags on suitcases.

This form of identification, which is placed on your luggage, is used to quickly identify your luggage.

Sometimes, luggage is misplaced while en route, with an estimated 28 million items of luggage mishandled every year according to data from Claim Compass.

It should come as no surprise then that people will try their hardest to keep their luggage safe, usually by using luggage tags.

They’re cheap and easy way to help passengers keep on track of their bags. These tags can be placed onto your bags and suitcases and will include your personal contact information such as your name, address, telephone number and email address or maybe even your social media handles.

But before you rush to buy some tags, there’s one major mistake which lots of people make. Thankfully, a flight attendant on TikTok has explained how to solve it to avoid landing yourself in a spot of bother.

In a viral video, cabin crew member Ally, who goes by the handle @allycase1 online, went over the common mistake people make and how to avoid landing yourself and your luggage in danger.

"Always make sure that your luggage tag has the contact information facing the other side," she said.

"I see so many people with luggage tags and their information displayed for everyone to see. Their name, their address, their phone number, their email. That is way too much information for just anyone to have.

"So instead, just flip the contact information to the other side. In the event that your bag is lost or stolen, whoever finds your bag is going to take out the piece of paper and flip it over to the other side to get your contact information."

"It’s great to have a luggage tag just not to have all of your information displayed for anyone to see at all times. I ride the train a lot and there are a lot of crazies on the train, I don’t need my information just there for everyone to see."

Flight attendants have been sharing lots of travel tips recently and even though the summer is quickly coming to an end, lots of us will be heading abroad this autumn.

Crew members have warned people against getting the coffee on planes, because the coffee machines on board are rarely cleaned.
