Desperate search for woman who may have given birth in park

Desperate search for woman who may have given birth in park

It follows the discovery of a human placenta in the area

Police are searching for a woman who they believe may have given birth in a UK park, following the discovery of a human placenta.

The placenta was found on the morning of Wednesday 21 June in Holly Brook Park in Southampton, Hampshire, with police saying they were ‘extremely concerned’ for the welfare of someone who may have given birth to a baby without support, saying they may feel incredibly 'frightened' or 'distressed'.

Hampshire Police are now making a direct appeal for the potential mother to get in touch, in a bid to make sure she is receiving the necessary ‘help and care’.

The force added that enquiries were being carried out in the area, and that there would be an increased police presence as officers investigated.

Southampton Chief Inspector Marcus Kennedy said: “While we are yet to establish exactly what has happened here, we are extremely concerned for the welfare of the person who may have given birth.

“I am making a direct appeal for her to get in touch with us.

"I know this must be a very distressing time for you, but I want to make sure you are getting the right help and care.

“I understand you may be frightened, it is important that you get in touch with us.

“We want to speak with anyone who has concerns about someone who has recently been pregnant, that you think may have been pregnant or may have given birth recently without support."

Police are now calling on people to come forward with any information they may have, however 'insignificant' it may seem, saying the priority is to make sure both the mother and newborn have any help they may need.

“Officers will be carrying out enquiries in the Holly Brook Park area today and you will see an increased presence.

“If you have any concerns, however insignificant you may believe them to be, please do not hesitate to approach an officer or to call us.”
