King Charles III celebrated his official birthday with Trooping the Colour over the weekend (13 June).

Kate Middleton and Prince William, alongside their three children, joined Queen Consort Camilla and thousands of spectators to view the spectacle featuring some of the nation’s most prestigious regiments.

Future king Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, eight, watched their grandfather from the first-floor window of the Duke of Wellington’s former office overlooking the parade ground in central London.

All eyes were on little Louis, who is famed for his playful nature on big royal occasions, given that the prince sparked plenty of amusement during Trooping the Colour in 2024 when he appeared to brush off instructions from his older sister, Charlotte, with a very cheeky two-word reply.

The young royal, who has become a fan favourite at the annual event, was spotted yawning and dancing along to 'Highland Laddie' as the Scots Guards marched past.

While Louis seemed fully entertained by the spectacle, Charlotte appeared more focused on making sure her younger brother followed royal protocol.

According to lip reader Nicola Hickling, who was speaking to the Mirror at the time, Charlotte stepped in as Louis danced and told him: "You have to stop doing that. Watch the parade."

Louis reportedly fired back with a defiant response: "I won't."

Charlotte then doubled down, saying: "Do as you're told," before Louis replied: "Nope."

The exchange quickly caught the attention of royal watchers, with many finding the sibling interaction hilarious.

It wasn't the only moment during the day that saw Charlotte keeping an eye on her younger brother.

Later, as the Royal Family gathered on the Buckingham Palace balcony, Charlotte was seen reminding Louis to keep his arms by his side during the national anthem.

Trooping the Colour is a historic ceremony where colours, or regimental flags, used as rallying points in battle were “trooped” or paraded in front of soldiers so they would be recognised, leading to them taking on great symbolic importance as the heart and soul of a regiment.

The ceremony evolved into a celebration of the head of state’s official birthday, and this year the colour trooped was the King’s Colour of the Grenadier Guards, presented by the King earlier this week during a Buckingham Palace ceremony.

Trooping is as much a social occasion as a ceremonial event, and stands around Horse Guards Parade were filled with about 8,000 family members of the guards and officers on parade.
