The late Queen Elizabeth II once made a joke about US President Donald Trump during his first presidency.

Trump became the 47th president of the US at the start of this year, but it wasn't his first time in the White House, with his initial term taking place between 2017 and 2021.

While members of the British royal family are required to remain neutral when it comes to politics - and not express a political standpoint - the Queen once spoke about Trump back in 2018, while having a conversation with Sir David Attenborough.

The six-word comment was made while filming an ITV documentary in the gardens of Buckingham Palace.

At one point, a helicopter flies overhead and audibly disturbed the conversation between the Queen and Sir David.

As it circled above the gardens, the Queen says: "Why do they go round and round when you want to talk?" She then quipped: "Sounds like President Trump, or President Obama".

King Charles, meanwhile, has recently invited Trump for a second state visit.

While visiting the White House last month, Prime Minister Keir Starmer presented the US president with an invitation from the monarch.

Starmer called Trump's last visit a 'tremendous success', meanwhile Trump said it would be an 'honour' to visit again.

The invite comes amidst Trump's 'Liberation Day' tariffs announcement, which saw him reveal a list of reciprocal tariffs he's set to impose on a number of nations across the globe last week.

The 78-year-old Republican began the eagerly-anticipated speech declaring: "We've been waiting for a long time, April 2, 2025, will forever be remembered as the day American industry was reborn, the day America's destiny was reclaimed, and the day that we began to 'Make America Wealthy Again'."

"For years, hard-working American citizens were forced to sit on the sidelines as other nations got rich and powerful, much of it at our expense. But now it’s our turn to prosper," he continued.

"This will be the golden age of America. It’s coming back."

Tariffs are simply taxes placed on goods that are imported into a country.

It is the importers buying the goods who pay the tariffs meaning that, in the case of the US, American companies will be paying the increased taxes.

As global stock markets plummeted following the announcement, Trump told concerned Americans not to 'be panicans'.

“The United States has a chance to do something that should have been done DECADES AGO. Don’t be Weak! Don’t be Stupid! Don’t be a PANICAN (A new party based on Weak and Stupid people!)," he said.

“Be Strong, Courageous, and Patient, and GREATNESS will be the result!”
