Royal fans are questioning an outfit choice of Prince William's after he debuted a new look at an awards ceremony.

If there's one thing we know about the royals - they're always going to dress to impress.

It's usually a particular point of focus for royal women, who are constantly analysed for their outfit choices.

The late Queen was known for dressing in bright colours, and other's could not wear the same colour at a family get-together.

But it's Prince William's latest fashion statement that has had people talking, after he debuted a rather casual royal get-up while attending the Earthshot awards ceremony in Cape Town yesterday (7 November).

At last year's ceremony, the prince wore a velvet suit paired with a dicky bow, but this year's choice couldn't have been more opposite.

Royal fans are divided on whether they enjoy the new look, which some have branded far more 'casual'.

While his top half was pretty standard for royal protocol, it was his footwear that caused the most chatter.

Debuting the look on the green carpet, he wore a vintage grey checked blazer and light blue shirt, paired with some white biodegradable trainers.

And while some have applauded the bold and sustainable move, others were just slightly confused.

In the comments of an Instagram picture, one user said: "Love this, but who forgot to give William the dress code?!"

Another agreed: "Did William's luggage get lost and he had to borrow clothes from five different people?"

A third added: "I don’t think I’ve ever seen Prince William at an event in sneakers!! I’m shocked but he’s probably so sick and tired of always dressing up too."

Others noted it was 'nice' to see the prince looking more casual, saying: "I'm loving his new casual look at certain events, it's very warming.

"He's one amazing man, professional and compassionate, well loved by many."

The environmental event was first launched by the future king back in 2021 in the hope of raising awareness of the ongoing climate crisis.

William also spoke about his wife, Kate Middleton, at the event, giving people a health update on her behalf.

Asked how Kate was getting on following her treatment, William replied: "She's doing really well thanks.

"Hopefully she's watching tonight and cheering me on.

"She's been amazing this whole year and I know she'll be really keen to see tonight be a success."
