Royal fans are speaking out after realising why Prince William's current trip to Brazil is particularly significant.
The Prince of Wales is in the middle of a five-day trip to the South American country to present the 2025 Earthshot Prize and deliver a speech at climate conference COP30.
Apparently, however, the significance of the South American voyage is multi-faceted for William, 43, with fans of the British royal clocking onto something special in his latest set of official photographs.
For anyone out of the loop, the annual environmental awards - founded by the Prince himself in 2020 - flew out to Rio de Janeiro earlier this week, where he'll grant five leaders in the field £1 million each to go towards their respective research.

The trip has also been purposed for William to launch a his new 'protect the protectors' programme, which aimed at keeping the world's indigenous communities both safe, and in tune with nature.

"Indigenous peoples and local communities have long been protectors of the world’s most critical ecosystems," he said this week.
"But today, their lives are increasingly at risk, and their lands are under mounting threats. If we are serious about tackling the climate crisis and restoring nature, we must stand with those who defend it."

As such, he also travelled to the tiny, car-less Paquetá Island, where he met with locals who have been surviving predominantly off the land for several generations. Before sailing over there, though, William spent several days in the country's capital.

The father-of-three made a brief pit-stop beside the Christ the Redeemer statue - arguably Rio's most iconic landmark - where he paid tribute to his mother, Princess Diana, who'd travelled to the exact same spot with his father, King Charles III, in 1991.
The former couple spent five days in Brazil that year on behalf of the British government, where they were responsible for both improving trade relations, and raising awareness of harms to the environment.

During the trip, the late princess - who tragically died in 1997 following a high-speed car crash in the Pont de l'Alma tunnel in Paris, when William was just 15 - posed beside the almighty status of Jesus Christ in photo recreated by William this week.
Commenting on the significance of the prince's return to a landmark once visited by his mother, a number of social media users spoke out.
"The grift is generational," one gushed. Another wrote: "She is incredibly proud of him. Watching from heaven."

Kensington Palace also released a statement, alluding to how much the voyage to South America meant to the father-of-three, given Diana's history.
"The Prince has loved meeting so many people from across Rio over the last few days," Palace representatives revealed. "He’s been incredibly struck by the number of people who fondly remember his mother’s visit to this beautiful city."
