Meghan Markle's unexpected choice of image for Prince Harry's birthday causes major stir

Prince Harry celebrates his 41st birthday today (Mon 15 Sept)

Today marks the 41st birthday of the Duke of Sussex, and to mark the special occasion, his wife Meghan Markle has shared a sentimental Instagram snap in his honour.

The issue is, however, that critics of the former Suits actress have raised concerns over the photo Meghan selected, as well as the somewhat cheeky caption she included online.

Taking to the social media page, which she restarted earlier this year in a bid to raise awareness of her Netflix reality series and accompanying lifestyle brand, the mother-of-two shared a pic of Harry from 10 years ago.

The photo was taken while the royal was visiting Goodwood Aerodrome for the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain, which at the time included a historic aircraft flypast.

In the pic, the prince wears a green army jumpsuit which bares the name 'Harry Wales', his father King Charles' former surname.

"Oh hi, Birthday Boy," Meghan, 44, penned in the caption, alongside a fire emoji, implying the Duchess very much likes what she sees.

As we say, however, her choice of snap has since raised some brows.

Sharing a laughing emoji, another noted of the questionable birthday tribute: "This is the best image Meghan could find to wish Prince Harry and happy birthday." A third joked: "I think she hates him, this photo is proof of that."

Another also shared a stream of crying-laughter faces, adding simply: "Meghan!"

"Hahahaha oh Meghan i love you," another continued. "Hahaha. Happy birthday Prince Harry."

Since returning to social media on New Year's Day, following a four-year break triggered by online trolling, the Duchess has used her profile to issue heartfelt messages to her loved ones.

For Valentine's Day this year, she shared a loved-up black and white photo alongside Harry, in which she plants a kiss on his lips.

Meghan gushily captioned the post: "Back home taking care of our babies, and missing my Valentine, as he continues on at the Invictus Games, changing lives and reminding all of us of the power of healing and resilience through these incredible veterans and their families.

"Beyond proud of my husband and what he’s created," she continued. "My love, I will eat burgers & fries and fish & chips with you forever. Thank you for you."

In the caption of one with her daughter herself, she added: "Happy birthday to our beautiful girl! Four years ago today she came into our lives - and each day is brighter and better because of it. Thanks to all of those sending love and celebrating her special day!"

And for Archie's sixth birthday in May, she also wrote in the caption of a sunset snap of the young prince: "Our son. Our sun.
