Why Prince Harry received monumental gift from the Queen Mother beyond the grave

On his 40th birthday last September, the Duke of Sussex was given a fraction of his great-grandmother's mammoth fortune

Last year, Prince Harry received a pretty sizeable sum of money from the Queen Mother from beyond the grave.

Before the Queen Mother died in 2002 at the grand old age of 101 - 20 years before her daughter Queen Elizabeth II passed away in 2022 - she put a number of things in place to ensure her family inherited her staggering fortune.

And because of such arrangements, one particular member of the royal family received quite large chunk of inheritance from his great-grandmother, according to The Times, when he turned 40 years old back in September 2024.

Probably one of the priciest birthday presents, it's clear that Harry inherited more than just family heirlooms as he was given a fraction of the Queen Mother's estimated fortune of £70 million, which she placed into a trust fund for her family.

According to reports, the father-of-two received a whopping £7 million share of the riches when he hit the milestone birthday.

He also reportedly received a larger share of the extremely high inheritance pot than his older brother, Prince William, due to the financial arrangements within the family.

Following intense media scrutiny and reported tensions within the royal family, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, announced in January 2020 that they would 'step back' from being senior royals which soon prompted Buckingham Palace to state that the couple would: no longer use HRH (His/Her Royal Highness) titles, stop receiving public funding and step down from official duties.

In April of that same year, Harry and Meghan - who had already welcomed Archie the year prior in 2019 - moved to to Los Angeles, California, and later settled in Montecito, Santa Barbara, ahead of welcoming Lilibet to the family in 2021.

It's been a busy few months for Harry since his birthday in September.

In April, he revealed that his 'worst fears have been confirmed' during the Court of Appeal case to restore his UK security, claiming that the downgrade of his protection was a deliberate effort to prevent him from returning and forcing him out of the royal family.

The following month, after losing his appeal to reinstate taxpayer-funded security in the UK, Harry had a bombshell interview with the BBC where he described the ruling as a 'good old‑fashioned establishment stitch‑up'.

He also claimed his father King Charles 'won’t speak to me because of this security stuff' and said he 'can’t see a world' in which he’d return to the UK with Meghan and their two children.
