A royal expert has made fresh claims about why exactly Harry and Meghan really left the royal family, after suggesting 'royal restrictions' would have held them back.
The infamous departure of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry from royal life has been picked apart like no other. Endless conspiracy theories surround the couple, as well as mass attention from either side of the pond.
And while people have a general understanding of why the couple chose to leave, given the hate Meghan received after their royal wedding, a royal author has now proposed a different take on the situation.

Valentine Low suggests that there was a slightly more lucrative motive behind the swift exit, that has never before been discussed. In his book Courtiers, he claims that the couple left the palace to live a more financially independent life - which could only be achieved in the US.

Low has suggested that the former actress had a strong desire to 'earn money for herself', but that the two browsed their options before making the bold move.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said that Meghan and Harry considered 'having a month a year to do their own thing'. They also reportedly looked at 'spending most of their time privately but doing a select number of royal activities'.

But ultimately, while tied to 'the firm', they could never have truly lived an 'independent' life, Low added. Royal protocol includes 'normal rules about royal behaviour', which they did not want to abide by.
In his book, the author claimed: "Some suspected that in the end she wanted to make money. And the only way she was going to do that was by leaving her royal life behind and going back to America."

If they had agreed to continue living life as senior royals, Low said that they would never have had the opportunity to 'act or take decisions in order to gain financially'.

The author also theorised that the decision could have been driven by a motive to get involved in US politics. And, of course, being a royal means you have no political alignment.
He wrote: "Crucially, it was the Queen who took the view that unless they were prepared to abide by the restrictions that applied to working members of the royal family, they could not be allowed to carry out official duties."
And while the couple have never openly spoken about their political views on the other side of the pond, it's known that they have a close friendship with the Biden family. More specifically, Meghan is friendly with Joe Biden’s sister, Valerie Biden Owens. And the politician's sister previously encouraged Meghan to have a career in US politics, even backing her for a position in the White House.
