The voices of Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet have been heard by royal fans for the first time.

In a video their mother, the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, shared on social media last night (7 January), the young pair could be heard issuing special tributes to their family dog Guy, who tragically passed away.

Both Meghan and Prince Harry have seemingly used all means necessary to keep their two children out of the spotlight since their resignation from royal duties in 2020.

That same year, the couple - who only had Archie at the time - left the UK for the US, where they've since settled down in Montecito, California, to welcome now three-year-old daughter Lilibet.

Aside from their official royal portraits - respectively released a year after Archie and Lilibet's births - the Sussexes' children have rarely been seen or heard from by the public since, with a royal insider previously telling People Magazine that their decision was conscious.

"Harry has been reluctant to show his children publicly, not out of a desire to hide them but to protect their privacy and safety from potential threats," the source explained last year.

"He wants them to lead as normal a life as possible without the fear of kidnapping or harm."

As such, fans of the family were understandably surprised to hear five-year-old Archie and his little sister Lilibet's voices this week in footage shared on Instagram by their mother.

Following her shock return to social media last week to promote her incoming Netflix lifestyle docu-series, 43-year-old Meghan yesterday shared a heartbreaking video compilation of their family dog, Guy, revealing that he'd sadly died.

In a tear-jerking, lengthy caption, the former actress explained that she'd adopted the beagle from a dog rescue in Canada in 2015, immediately naming him 'the little guy' due to his frailty at the time.

"He was with me at Suits, when I got engaged, (and then married), when I became a mom….he was with me for everything: the quiet, the chaos, the calm, the comfort," Meghan wrote.

Guy also featured in the trailer for her new series With Love, Meghan, prompting her to add in her latest caption: "I hope you’ll come to understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you may fall a little bit in love too."

Several segments of the sweet video tribute see a young Prince Archie walking Guy along with dad Harry, whilst others saw Lilibet playing with him in the park.

Though the kids were only ever shown with their backs turned, their voices could be heard during several sweet moments - including at the end, where they're heard singing a song.

Another clip heard Archie telling mum Meghan that Guy 'might fall' during a car journey, with Harry behind the wheel.

Despite the heartbreaking nature of the announcement, fans have been delighted to hear the Sussexes' children sounding so happy and healthy.

Taking to social media, one listener gushed: "I just love seeing the little family moments in this video and the singing at the end."

Another penned online: "Ooooh that’s adorable," whilst a third added: "Awww, this is too cute! Love dogs (much, much more than cats) and I feel for anyone mourning their furry friend."
