Old photo of Princess Diana and William at Wimbledon sparks bizarre conspiracy theory after people spot ‘detail’

People were convinced there was something suspicious about the photo

People have been left suspicious over an image of Princess Diana and Prince William from over 30 years ago.

The photo shows Diana and her eldest son watching Wimbledon back in 1991, but people have come up with a pretty far fetched conspiracy after seeing it for the first time.

Many have been comparing the photo to images of Prince William with his eldest son, Prince George, who attended this year's Wimbledon Men's Singles Finals over the weekend.

On Sunday (July 13), the Prince and Princess of Wales watched the match with their two eldest children, Prince George, 11 and Princess Charlotte, 10.

Their youngest son, Prince Louis, did not attend, however, at the age of seven, Louis is still younger than both George and Charlotte were when they made their debut appearance at Wimbledon, aged eight.

Following the photo of Diana and William re-emerging online, people have taken to social media to claim it could be edited using an artificial intelligence tool.

One person commented: "If you zoom in it’s blurry and her neck fades away. Ai probably."

While another claimed: "Definitely not Diana."

And a third said: "Not William! Or his mum!"

Others disagreed, with one social media user writing: "Everything isn’t AI."

While someone else commented: "I think her neck isn't fading away, its the movement of her hand as she clapped which is making it look blurry I think."

And another wrote: "Her neck doesn't fade away. Her hand is in the way which happens to be moving (clapping) which means it's blurred. It's a photo from the 90s so cameras obviously couldn't produce the sharpness we expect today."

A final user penned: "If you made use of Google you would know Diana did in fact take William to Wimbledon and wore that very outfit."

The photo is from media company and photo agency Getty Images, and was taken at Wimbledon on 6 July 1991.

In other words, it's definitely not AI.

But it hasn't stopped others from being adamant, with another adding: "That’s not princess Di or William."

William made his Wimbledon debut at the age of nine and watched the match with Diana from the Royal Box at the Centre Court.

Both William and George wore suits for the occasion, following the dress code in the Royal Box.

Following George's appearance at the event over the weekend, many fans called for the youngster to be able to wear something cooler to Wimbledon.

The tennis event always seems to fall on sweltering hot days, with George complaining back in 2022 that he was 'too hot'.

In a clip of the moment, William tries to comfort his son, and Kate adds: "You just have to feel for the people sitting in the bright sunshine."
