The Euro 2024 final came to a devastating end yesterday (14 July), with England losing out after Spain beat us 2-1 - and a lip reader has weighed in to determine exactly what Prince William said during the defeat.

The future King of England was spotted in the stands alongside his son, Prince George, and the two looked on in shock as it sank in that we'd lost our second European Championship final in a row.

The father and son were seriously engrossed in the match and Prince George could be seen biting his nails and clasping his hands to his cheeks when England players failed to get the ball in the net.

Following the loss, Prince William took to X to share his thoughts on the final.

He wrote: "He wrote: "This time it just wasn’t meant to be. We’re all still so proud of you. Onwards @England. W”

Prince William and his son are avid football fans who have both attended various matches together in the past.

It was noted that 42-year-old Prince William, who alongside his Royal duties is also the President of the FA, was approached by somebody during the game and it seemed he wasn't overly pleased with the interruption.

He went on to mutter something repeatedly under his breath.

Social media was aflame with people trying to figure out what he had said.

Lip reader Nicola Hinkling told the Mirror: "William wasn't having any of it and said it 'was already requested'. When he sat down, he muttered under his breath the word 'sausage'."

Body language expert Darren Stanton also weighed in, adding the following on behalf of Betfair Slots: "We saw William in a much more relaxed manner than ever before. During many of his engagements as the Prince of Wales, William shows feelings of happiness when necessary but still displays a professional manner.

"Normally, William would show a few smiles and walk with a stride in his step to show genuine contentment - but this time, he went a step further. It was great to see a very expressive side to the Prince. Chanting with the crowd, punching the air with his fist and displaying huge grins, were all examples of William expressing raw emotion."

It seems that a love for football runs in the Royal family, with King Charles also issuing a message of support following the final.

He included: "Although victory may have eluded you this evening, nevertheless my wife and I join all my family in urging you and your support team to hold your heads high.

“All those who have participated in sporting activities at any level will know how utterly despairing such a result can feel when the prize was so near – and will join me in sending heartfelt sympathy, even as we congratulate Spain."

He continued: “But please know that your success in reaching the European Championship final is a really great achievement in itself, and one that brings with it the pride of a nation which will continue to roar for the Three Lions today – and in the many triumphs which I have no doubt lie ahead."

Tyla has reached out to Kensington Palace for comment.
