The Prince and Princess of Wales have just shared a brand-new regal photo, and royal fans have been quick to notice another royal similarity.

The photo was shared earlier this week on Wednesday (3 December) on their official social media accounts, with Prince William seen wearing a traditional white tie with a black tailcoat and adorned with princely regalia, which was in perfect keeping for the diplomatic evening ahead.

Kate Middleton, meanwhile, left fans stunned after donning a sparkling winter-blue Jenny Packham gown and debuting Queen Victoria's Oriental Circlet Tiara for the special occasion Windsor state dinner.

Mind you, the piece of headwear hasn't been worn publicly since the late Queen Elizabeth wore it in 2006, and it's also the first time Kate has ever worn it publicly, which marks a pretty major royal milestone moment in her evolution as Princess of Wales.

The photo was captioned: "Looking forward to a special banquet tonight in Windsor [German flag] [British flag]."

And, let's just say, it didn't take long for royalists to rush to the comments to share their reactions with one X user writing: "The Prince & Princess of Wales look absolutely smashing!!!"

"Kate never misses. Gorgeous!" praised a second, while a third chimed in: "The dress. New tiara. New home. Everything about this photo is amazing!"

A fourth exclaimed: "Wow! Just when I thought the state banquet was the most regal you looked, you slay in blue. Definitely your colour. I can't get over this look. You already look like the King & Queen."

"Princess Kate is definitely ready for Queen status!" echoed a fifth.

Others couldn't help but compare the royal couple to none other than Aurora and Prince Philip from the hit 1959 Disney flick, Sleeping Beauty.

Sharing a gif from the throwback film, a sixth gushed: "Look at y’all!"

Another shared yet another gif from the movie while a final X user did the same, beaming: "You guys look amazing together!"

King Charles welcomed German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the Christmas-themed state banquet at Windsor Castle on Wednesday night.

A total of 152 guests filled St George's Hall, which had been dressed for the season with a towering 20-foot tree strung with thousands of lights, with the likes of model Claudia Schiffer joining the guest list alongside UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer.

Other notable attendees included film composer Hans Zimmer as well as violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter.
