Melania Trump and Kate Middleton's rare joint appearance leaves people confused as strange detail is spotted

Images of Melania Trump and Kate Middleton walking together have sparked questions after people noticed one unusual thing.

Melania is currently accompanying her husband, Donald Trump, on his second state visit to the UK. The 79-year-old's second visit is unprecedented, as Presidents typically have only one state visit, and the Trumps have spent a significant amount of their time being hosted by the Royal Family at Windsor Castle.

On Wednesday (17 September), the royals, including King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Kate, and Prince William, greeted the Trumps as they landed outside the Castle in a helicopter.

After a state dinner, during which Trump was criticised for remarks about Kate in a speech, the Princess of Wales and Melania were spotted taking a walk together.

And there's one thing in particular which some people have found odd about the photos.

It's the apparent difference in height between the two women.

Former model Melania stands at a tall 5'11", while Kate is just slightly shorter at 5'9". But some people on social media clocked that in the pictures, Kate appeared significantly taller than Melania.

One commenter wrote: "Is Kate Middleton really that tall? She looks like a giant beside the very tall former model, Melania."

Looking closer at the pictures, it appears that Kate, 43, is wearing high-heeled boots for the walk, while the 55-year-old has opted for more comfortable flats, a detail which some people picked up on, as another said: "She’s wearing heels and Melania is in flats!"

But others pointed out that the discrepancy appears so big that even wearing 3-inch heels would not create the difference in the photos.

"Figure this one out: Melania is 5’11” tall, Kate Middleton is 5’9” tall," posted one royal watcher. "Even wearing 3” heels, how does Kate end up 3-5” taller than Melania? Curious minds…."

Meanwhile, another wrote: "Does Kate have 8" heels?"

There is another possible explanation for this part of the pictures - it's just a quirk of the perspective in the photo.

It could be that Kate is standing slightly closer to the camera, and this, combined with her wearing heels, creates the effect in the image, a bit like the forced perspective in the Lord of the Rings films, but less extreme.

And it seems like this state visit has produced a few viral photos, including this one of Melania in her huge hat.

Of course, those who are into conspiracy theories might be tempted to go down the bizarre rabbit hole about Trump actually bringing a body double of Melania with him.

I am, of course, joking as these are entirely unsubstantiated rumours, but they have still been persistent enough for Trump himself to address them, calling them 'fake news'.
