In March of last year, Kate Middleton announced that she had been diagnosed with cancer and had started a course of preventative chemotherapy.

The 43-year-old was inundated with support after revealing her cancer diagnosis and, in September 2024, she joyfully announced the completion of her chemotherapy and started to make a a gradual return to her royal duties.

It wasn't until January of this year that the mother-of-three confirmed that she was now in remission, with her most recent public outing yesterday (2 July) seeing the Princess of Wales make a very candid admission when sharing a rare update in her cancer recovery journey.

And now, following yesterday's Colchester Hospital visit, royal fans have made an important point about how frank Kate has been regarding her 'post-treatment phase' following chemotherapy.

"You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment's done, then it's like, 'I can crack on, get back to normal,' but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult," she shared.

Kate then made the sad admission that she hasn't been able to 'function normally at home' as she did before she started her cancer treatment.

"You're not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you're not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to," she continued.

"And actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable."

Kate, who shares three children; Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven, with William, hailed it as 'life-changing' for both the patient and their families.

"You have to find your new normal and that takes time... and it's a rollercoaster, it's not smooth, like you expect it to be," she said. "But the reality is you go through hard times."

After catching light of Kate's comments, royal fans rushed to social media to share their praise, noting it's inspiring to see how honest she's been about how tough the cancer recovery was.

One Instagram user penned: "The princess sharing how difficult the post-treatment journey is will certainly inspire and help more people facing this disease!"

A second shared: "Recovery and remission is very hard work and doesn't happen overnight. I'm just returning to work fully at the 2 year mark. To listen to your own body is most important and I'm glad our Princess is doing that also."

"Inspiring and so incredible," praised a third, while another congratulated: "You did it! You inspire me not to give up!"
