Amal Clooney sparks outrage after 'breaking' royal protocol during King Charles meeting

The human rights lawyer met with King Charles III at Buckingham Palace back in July

A protocol blunder made by Amal Clooney during her meeting with King Charles III earlier this year has seemingly resurfaced online.

For those in need of a reminder, the monarch, 76, welcomed British lawyer and human rights activist Clooney to Buckingham Palace back in June, alongside a horde of other huge-name stars.

This also included make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury, model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and TV presenter Declan Donnelly.

The glitzy get-together was actually arranged in ode to this year's King's Trust Awards, which honours the resilience, creativity and courage of young people in the UK today, as well as the persons and bodies that support them.

Clooney brought her Hollywood hubby, George, to the prestigious affair, with the power couple photographed smiling alongside Charles, engaged in some lighthearted chit-chat.

Prior to getting into things, however, Clooney, 47, was seen approaching the monarch and inadvertently filmed 'breaking' some major royal protocol.

As opposed to curtseying before the King by crossing over her legs and leaning over, she bows slightly and offers him a handshake.

Unsurprisingly, it didn't take long for social media critics to weigh in on the matter.

You can see the clip here:

"So disrespectful! Amal can’t even curtsy to The King!" one infuriated user hit out at the time.

Another added: "The rude part for me was crossing her legs, and you have to realise that George & Amal may have met the King earlier (only have to curtsy or bow once), but then again I have never seen George bow to the late Queen."

"Not 'required', although it is a mark of respect and not just to royals," a third explained. "When I was at school, we had special guests awarding prizes for speech day at the end of the year. We went on stage and gave a small curtsy as we shook their hand.

"It used to be a very common thing."

Oddly, Charles appeared completely unfazed by the incident, going on to greet the Ocean's Eleven actor with a warm handshake, supporting the assertion that curtseying isn't a super strict requirement.

In fact, the Royal Family's official website says the same thing.

"There are no obligatory codes of behaviour when meeting a member of the Royal Family, but many people wish to observe the traditional forms," the site reads.

"For men this is a neck bow (from the head only) whilst women do a small curtsy. Other people prefer simply to shake hands in the usual way."
