Prince Harry has spoken out on King Charles’s cancer diagnosis during a rare interview announced earlier today (16 February).

The Duke of Sussex has made his first public remarks about his father’s illness which saw him fly to the UK earlier this month.

The 75-year-old monarch was recently admitted to hospital for a benign prostate enlargement, but it was during this procedure that another health ailment was alerted to medics, subsequently found to be a form of cancer.

When asked how the visit was for him emotionally, Prince Harry told ABC's Good Morning America: "I love my family. The fact that I was able to get on a plane and go and see him and spend any time with him, I’m grateful for that."

He also told GMA that his father’s illness could have a 'reunifying effect' on the family, adding: "Yeah, I’m sure. Throughout all these families I see it on a day-to-day basis the strength of the family unit coming together. I think any illness, any sickness brings families together."

The short 15-second trailer for the interview shows Prince Harry discussing his 'life with Meghan, how his father King Charles is doing and his passion supporting wounded warriors'.

News of King Charles' cancer diagnosis was announced on February 5 by the palace.

A statement read: "During The King’s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted. Subsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form of cancer.

"His Majesty has today commenced a schedule of regular treatments, during which time he has been advised by doctors to postpone public-facing duties. Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.

"The King is grateful to his medical team for their swift intervention, which was made possible thanks to his recent hospital procedure. He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.

"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer."

For the time being, King Charles has postponed public facing duties, and the regular audiences between the King and the Prime Minister are set to resume next week on 21 February.
