Pam Bondi was fired by Donald Trump from her position as US Attorney General this week - and people think they know the real reason why.
The 60-year-old Republican from Tampa, Florida, was sworn in as the 87th Attorney General of the United States on 5 February, 2025, so has served in the political role for just over a year.
Before this, she worked in the White House as Special Advisor to Trump in the Office of White House Counsel, working on the defense legal team throughout the Impeachment Proceedings.
The US President said in a Truth Social post yesterday (2 April): "Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year.

"Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900.
"We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much-needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future."

Pam Bondi's statement
Shortly afterwards, Bondi released her own statement on the matter, gushing about her new job - an 'important private sector role' she is 'thrilled about'.
She wrote on X: "Over the next month, I will be working tirelessly to transition the office of Attorney General to the amazing Todd Blanche before moving to an important private sector role I am thrilled about, and where I will continue fighting for President Trump and this Administration."
Bondi continued: "Leading President Trump’s historic and highly successful efforts to make America safer and more secure has been the honor of a lifetime, and easily the most consequential first year of the Department of Justice in American history.
"Since February 2025, we have secured the lowest murder rate in 125 years, secured first-ever terrorism convictions against members of Antifa, shattered domestic and transnational gangs across the country, taken custody of more than 90 key cartel figures, and won 24 favorable rulings at the Supreme Court.
"I remain eternally grateful for the trust that President Trump placed in me to Make America Safe Again."
Trump has since named Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche as the acting Attorney General, while a permanent replacement is found.
Why was Pam Bondi fired from her role as Attorney General?
As mentioned, even after the statements were released, the news has prompted questions about why exactly Bondi was fired.
Reports, including from The Telegraph and Al Jazeera, have emerged linking the sacking to the months of scrutiny over her handling of files related to Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking investigation.
But it's important to note that, despite many reports making this claim, this reason is yet to be confirmed by Trump.
Bondi faced a lot of criticism and even became a target of conservatives, despite her close relationship with the Republican leader.

Last February, she claimed that she had a list of Epstein’s 'clients' sitting on her desk 'ready to review'.
However, five months later, she denied that a list ever existed, sparking backlash from around the US and the world.
Bondi is also due to testify before the House Oversight Committee on her oversight of the Epstein Transparency Act next month.
The family of late Epstein survivor Virginia Giuffre, who died last year, have celebrated Bondi's sacking.
They said in a statement: "Alliance to a corrupt agenda never serves you. Another one falls on the sword to protect the powerful!
"We hope she has the courage to testify and actually do right by survivors this time."
Tyla has contacted the White House for comment.
