White House told to ‘grow up’ as Halloween post is slammed as ‘embarrassing’

The White House's social media team has met some fierce criticism in their attempt to capitalise on the spooky season.

It wouldn't be the first time either, as the official Oval Office account has faced backlash for various posts regarding political developments in the US.

Earlier this month, the US government shut down after Republicans and Democrats disagreed on a spending plan for the federal government, which ultimately led to the furlough of numerous non-essential workers and others not receiving payment while continuing to work.

According to the BBC, the shutdown may trigger a domino effect affecting millions of Americans, including those receiving food assistance, military personnel, individuals relying on heating during the winter, and air traffic control personnel.

Just today (31 October), Orlando airport came close to cancelling all landing flights after struggling to find air traffic controllers, leading to numerous delays both arriving and departing from the airport, Sky News reports.

Amidst all this, the White House's Instagram account made a meme regarding the situation, which left a lot of people incredibly angry, and now, they have irked social media users again with their latest post.

Today, they posted a Halloween-themed video of the White House being haunted by a bunch of ghosts, as crime tape and toppled-down railings litter the ground.

The caption reads: "GHOSTED: Democrats disappear on the American people when they need them the most. DEMOCRAT SHUTDOWN."

However, this has just p***d off commenters, as some said to 'grow up' for posting something 'embarrassing'.

One person said: "The official white house page posted this btw GROW UP," while another commented: "This account is so embarrassing and immature."

A third asked: "What the f**k is wrong with you."

Meanwhile, others specifically referred to the account's social media team, as someone said they 'love the social media manager', while a fifth called their posts 'irresponsible'.

Over on Truth Social, Donald Trump has called for the Senate to scrap the filibuster for the Republican majority to override the Democrats and reopen the government.

He wrote on Thursday (29 October): "THE CHOICE IS CLEAR – INITIATE THE ‘NUCLEAR OPTION,’ GET RID OF THE FILIBUSTER."

According to The Guardian, 60 votes in a full Senate are required to override the filibuster, and it is something Trump has had some time to reflect on during his trips to Japan, China, Malaysia, and South Korea.

After talking about how it was a 'great honour' to 'see that America is respected again' in another Truth Social post, he then mentioned the filibuster situation, writing: "It is now time for the Republicans to play their “TRUMP CARD,” and go for what is called the Nuclear Option – Get rid of the Filibuster, and get rid of it, NOW!"

Now, on day 31, CBS reports that the shutdown is estimated to extend into next week, as the Senate has adjourned without a resolution and won't meet again until Monday (November 3).
