Melania Trump has been praised for her heartwarming reaction to a child who was scared during the White House's Halloween event.

Last night (30 October), the US president, 79, and first lady, 55, greeted young trick-or-treaters outside the presidential residence to hand out sweets during the annual event.

The White House was decked out in elaborate decorations, including Jack-O'-Lanterns, orange leaves, and a giant sign reading: "Halloween 2025."

And although Trump and Melania didn't sport costumes themselves, the children involved certainly went all out and met the pair dressed as everything from a McDonald's drive-thru to the twins from The Shining.

A few youngsters even opted to dress up as the political couple, with others donning America-themed costumes such as Secret Service agents or the Statue of Liberty.

As expected, this event has created a few viral moments over the years, including in 2019, when Trump placed candy on the head of a child dressed as a Minion.

And this time, the moment in question that's garnered attention online is when Melania comforted a young girl who appeared visibly upset and scared of the decorations.

She stooped down and opened her arms to bring the little one closer, before she rubbed her shoulder reassuringly and gave her sweets.

We rarely get to see Melania interacting with kids, so this was a sweet detail that social media users have been praising her for.

Sharing the moment, one Twitter user penned: "First Lady Melania Trump shows her true colours at the White House Halloween celebration - warmly COMFORTING a scared young girl.

"When someone asks why Melania is so highly regarded by the American people, this is why. She is one of the best First Ladies in history."

A second responded: "She is incredible. The treatment she has endured by the establishment media and talking heads is a real travesty. Americans see her though and they love her."

While a third agreed: "Politics aside, this is the job.. calm the room, lift the kid, leave everyone smiling. First Lady energy."

A fourth chimed in with: "She does some many amazing humanitarian things behind the scenes. She’s a treasure."

And a final user wrote: "Melania is what real class and compassion look like."

As per MailOnline, Trump and Melania emerged from the White House to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ being played by a military string ensemble.

The publication reported that the president's top staffers and their families were first in line to meet the couple.

Top advisor and deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, his wife Katie Miller, and their three children were in attendance, as well as White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, her husband, and their youngster, who was dressed up as a pumpkin.
