Donald Trump and Melania’s 'uncomfortable kiss' during the Mar-a-Lago New Year's Eve party sparked a huge debate on social media.

The 79-year-old Republican president and First Lady, 55, could be seen dancing together during the lavish party. One viral clip taken from an angle behind Trump showed him lean closer towards Melania before embracing one another in a hug as the countdown to the New Year was up.

The couple's son, 19-year-old Barron, could be seen standing next to his parents.

Now, in this particular angle, it's not exactly clear whether the pair kissed on the lips, if it was just a kiss on the cheek or whether no kiss took place at all.

Regardless, that's not stopped social media users rushing online to share their speculation with one TikTok user writing: "She didn’t even kiss him."

"He barely got on her cheek, lol," quipped a second as a third chimed in: "It looks like they gave a kiss on the lips and then kiss each other's cheeks, not that serious."

A fourth agreed: "They kissed then hugged."

"No - air kissed," theorised a fifth as another commented, per ETimes, on the 'very uncomfortable' moment.

And a final social media user added: "They kissed. Period."

Tickets for the NYE party went for $1,450 a pop and featured many famous figures on the guest list.

This year, Emirati billionaire Hussain Sajwani, Hollywood producer Brett Ratner, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu were in attendance.

However the interaction panned out, it's clear that such speculation concerning Trump and Melania's intimate interactions has happened on several occasions now, including his inauguration back in January 2025.

People will no doubt remember Melania's huge wide-brimmed hat she wore to the occasion - an accessory which successfully thwarted her husband's attempts to plant one on her.

At the time, people rushed online to share the thoughts on the awkward blunder.

One viewer jibed on X afterwards: "I’ve just realised why Melania is wearing that wide-brimmed hat - it made it impossible for Trump to land his attempted kiss….Smart woman…"

Another noted: "Trump attempting to kiss Melania but the brim of her hat got in the way. That was strange".

"Trump told Melania not to wear that hat. He couldn't kiss her," a third teased.

"All time moment there with Trump trying to give Melania a kiss on cheek without hitting her hat," a fourth penned, while a fifth asked: "Was that an air kiss that Trump gave Melania?"
