John Stamos has broken his silence over his appearance at a Mar-a-Lago charity event last weekend.

Stamos, 61, took to his social media earlier this week to explain to his followers why he was present at the event - which was held in President Donald Trump's Florida estate - after many expressed their disappointment in the actor.

Stamos had been attending the Palm Beach Ray of Hope Gala, which aims to empower non-profit organisations by providing resources and support.

At the event, the actor was acting as master of ceremonies.

Sharing a statement online, the Full House star insisted that 'supporting nurses isn't political' and offered an explanation as to why he took part in the gala.

He wrote on his Instagram Story: "I accepted the invitation to emcee the Palm Beach Ray of Hope Gala —an evening dedicated to honoring and uplifting our frontline heroes.

“This nonpartisan event supports The Academy for Nursing and Health Occupations, a 501(c)(3) organization that trains 350-400 nurses every year, directly addressing the critical shortage of healthcare professionals in Palm Beach County.

“Supporting nurses isn’t political — it’s essential. These are the people who care for us and our families when we need it most, and I believe we should show up for them with the same unwavering dedication they show up with every single day. I stand by the importance of healthcare, of service, and of investing in those who care for our communities.”

Stamos continued: “My values and political views remain unchanged and if you don’t donate to Palm Beach Ray of Hope, then please consider donating to Democracy Forward."

People were shocked when they saw photos of Stamos at the event, with one claiming that Stamos 'being a Trump supporter is so completely depressing'.

While another said: "Oh no!!!!! Everyone unfollowed John Stamos immediately. He was at Mar-A-Lago this weekend."

However, people later commented on the actor's social media, thanking him for his 'transparency'.

One wrote: "Thank you for putting out your statement. Please don’t go to that place again. There are many other places to support future nurses & I know you know that. Appreciate you being transparent and for the link you left for democracyforward.org."

Another said: "I am so sorry how attacked you were in the past 24 hours on here. Thank you for clarifying and bringing to light two things people can donate to that help this country. I don’t know what it’s like to be in the limelight as much as you.

"But I do know the John Stamos I read about in your memoir. And I’m truly grateful for your poised response and clarifying something everyone saw one stupid tweet about and ran with it.

"I’ve always respected you but tonight was a whole other level. All the love to you and the fam."
