JD Vance is facing backlash online after he was caught reportedly going against the rules of the road in order to avoid protestors in Wisconsin.

A video that's been doing the rounds on social media shows the 41-year-old American Vice President's motorcade allegedly going the wrong way down a one-way road.

The clip shows a horde of protestors lining the road holding up signs, waiting for him to pass by, however, once they realise the vehicle he's in is heading for the opposite street, they all run across just in time.

The Twitter account for Wisconsin Democrats shared a video of the moment alongside the caption: "JD Vance went the WRONG WAY down a one way street to avoid protesters in Wisconsin. Disgraceful."

While a second user brutally wrote: "JD Vance dodging protesters by driving the wrong way down a one-way street just proves he's as spineless in real life as he is in his flip-flopping politics, cowardice on wheels!"

And a third reshared the clip and penned: "JD Vance got scared of Wisconsin protesters today so his motorcade decided to go down the wrong way on a one way street to avoid them but the protesters were too fast."

A fourth added: "Nice to know we have an administration who cares about the rule of law again."

However, other users pointed out that it likely wasn't Vance himself who would have made the decision, but instead his security team, as he wouldn't have been driving.

One social media user wrote: "Secret Service made the call, not Vance (because that's how these things work)."

And another added: "Even if it was 'wrong way' there is no such thing when they shut the roads down for VIP's. This was likely the safest, most direct route."

While someone else pointed out: "They block off the roads so it does not matter if he went the wrong way."

While a third agreed: "Not unreasonable for the most senior leaders to take safest routes in and out of venues. It’s standard and happens all the time. Secret Service does rolling blocks and road take overs. No controversy here."

Vance was in the state on Thursday (28th August) for an event at a steel fabrication facility, Mid-City Steel, in La Crosse.

The Republican politician promoted provisions favouring the working class in a tax and spending bill, according to Reuters.

He highlighted Donald Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' provisions that cut taxes on tips and overtime in order to try and appeal to the working class.

During the Wisconsin visit, he said at the event: "For years, American leaders would ask you to work overtime, would ask you to spend even more time away from your family. And every hour that you spend on the job, they would reach further and further in your pocket.

"We believe that if you spend an extra hour of work, the government ought to keep its hands the hell out of your pocket.”

He added: "What the President of the United States was elected on a promise to do was to bring back American manufacturing, to bring back American craftsmanship."

Tyla has contacted the White House for comment.
